Why a video download fails — and how to fix it
Most failed downloads come down to a handful of causes. Working through them in order usually solves the problem faster than retrying the same link.
1. The link is not the video link
Share sheets sometimes copy a profile or search URL rather than the post itself. Open the video, then copy the address from the browser bar or the post's own share button.
2. The content is private or restricted
Private accounts, age-restricted uploads, members-only posts and region-locked videos cannot be resolved. If the link needs a login to view in a fresh browser window, it will not download.
3. The post was deleted or the URL expired
Story links and temporary posts expire quickly. Confirm the page still loads before troubleshooting anything else.
4. Too many attempts in a row
Rapid repeated requests can trigger rate limiting. Waiting fifteen to thirty seconds before the next attempt clears it.
5. The file saves but will not play
That usually means the download was interrupted. Delete the partial file and download again on a stable connection rather than trying to repair it.
